National Parks of Croatia
The national parks of North Dalmatia are a nature lover's paradise. You'll discover spectacular natural wonders and bountiful wildlife as you explore this pristine and beautiful region. Active travelers find it well worth their time to hike and mountain climb inland and those who enjoy the coastal regions will revel in turquoise waters with plentiful coves in which to swim and snorkel. One of the places not to be missed is Plitvice Lakes National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it's lush wooded hills encompass sixteen lakes connected by waterfalls. Take an amazing hike through the park which teems with deer, boar, rabbits, bear and fox. Keep an eye out for the abundance of birds such as hawks, wild ducks and herons. Another highlight is Paklencia National Park located in the south near the Velebit range and comprised of high peaks with stunning views. Krka National Park is also a must see for everyone. Here you will find picturesque cascades of crystal water and the serene Krka river winding through the valleys. For the truly adventurous, Kornati National Park is a chain of almost ninety uninhabited islands that can only be explored by boat. Sailing on the glorious blue sea, its easy to understand why this area of the world is defined as paradise.
